Tips for Users of the Old MapiMailer PDF Print E-mail
Written by Steve Sutherland

For the many users of the old MapiMailer, I thought I'd demonstrate the steps you can take to update your export presets to start using the new plugin version of MapiMailer.

Version Compatibility

The old MapiMailer that you are currently using, and the new plugin version can both be installed in Lightroom at the same time. This means you can take your time and update things when you are ready without any concern about breaking anything. If you haven't done so already, go ahead, download and install the new MapiMailer plugin and don't worry about uninstalling the old MapiMailer until you have finished converting your export presets which I'll explain next.

You can find detailed information on using the MapiMailer plugin here:  Using the New MapiMailer Plugin.

Converting your Old MapiMailer Presets

If you've already created user presets which use the old MapiMailer, you can update those presets to use the new MapiMailer plugin while preserving all of your existing settings. It wasn't immediately obvious to me how to do this so I'll show you how. Below, is an example of one of my existing presets which is still using the old MapiMailer.  Notice the banner on top says Files on Disk and the Post-Processing step at the bottom runs the old MapiMailer after export.

Next, I'm going to convert this preset, with all of its setting preserved, to use the new MapiMailer plugin.

To convert any old preset to use the new plugin
  1. Select the old preset from the export dialog list.  This will display all of the options you saved with that preset, as well as the old MapiMailer being started in the Post-Processing step similar to the previous image.
  2. Click on the banner at the top of the export dialog and select MapiMailer from the menu. This will switch to useing the MapiMailer plugin, and will preserve all of your settings  from your preset.
  3. For this next step, do not click on the name of your preset in the presets list with the left mouse button since that will reset the dialog to use the saved old settings for your preset.  Instead, just move the mouse pointer anywhere directly over the name of the preset you are updating in the presets list and click the right mouse button.  A menu will popup and you want to select Update with Current Settings.

If done correctly, your preset has now been converted to use the new plugin. You'll know that it has because every time you select it, You'll see the MapiMailer plugin in the banner at the top.

Uninstalling the Old MapiMailer

This step is optional, but there is really no reason not to do it. Uninstall the old MapiMailer program by using Windows Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs. Look for MapiMailer in the list and select Uninstall. It will be removed from Lightroom once Lightroom has been restarted.
